The Central Statistics Office (CSO) recognises the importance of ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone. We are committed to making our website accessible in accordance with European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020. We are continually working to improve our website user experience for everyone and make our content available to the widest possible audience, including those who use assistive technologies.
This accessibility statement applies to the cso.ie website
Compliance status
CSO.ie is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 level AA due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below. We are aware that some content on this website does not fully meet accessibility standards. The issues identified below primarily relate to older content, archived material and legacy systems.
Non-accessible content
- Some images do not have suitable alternative text on older pages.
- Some images are not text free on older pages.
- Some elements within older pages do not have sufficient levels of colour contrast.
- Some older pages do not have correctly ordered content.
- Some supporting materials for statistical publications are not fully accessible. These include infographics, sound bites and some videos. We are working to provide transcripts for these – please contact us if you would like one where it is not provided.
- Some PDF (Portable Document Format) versions of older documents in our release archives. If you cannot access the information in any PDF document, please contact us for assistance.
- The CSO maintains a large archive of historical statistical releases for reference purposes. Some of these documents do not fully meet current accessibility standards. Due to the scale and volume of archived material, retrospectively remediating all historical publications would place a disproportionate burden on the organisation. Where content from archived publications is required in an accessible format, users may contact the CSO and we will endeavour to provide the information in an alternative accessible format where practicable.
- While the CSO has replaced a number of legacy systems, including the former Small Area Population Maps (SAPMAP) application, some interactive maps, charts and visualisation tools may not yet fully support keyboard navigation, screen readers or other assistive technologies. Where information is not fully accessible through these tools, we will provide access to the data in an alternative format on request.
- Census Small Area Population Statistics for 2011, 2016 and 2022 are available through the CSO Census Interactive Mapping tools and Ireland's Census Data Hub. If you experience difficulty accessing this information or require it in an alternative accessible format, please contact us and we will assist with your enquiry.
- Some of our corporate documents are published in PDF format where we are reproducing a printed graphic design document. We aim to provide an accessible transcript or version of all such documents in the future. Where an accessible version is not available, please contact us for assistance.
