Within this module respondents will be asked about difficulties carrying out specific daily tasks, such as preparing a meal, managing finances, or doing housework. Information on how many respondents receive help or support with everyday activities will also be collected. Of those who receive help or support, stakeholders requested information on who provides this support, with a particular interest to separate out personal assistants and carers. How frequently the support is accessed and whether this is sufficient, and detail on whether the support is paid for by the family, will also be captured. If the respondent is not receiving support, they are asked if they would like to receive help and the barriers preventing them from accessing support.
Information on care services such as day care services, meal centres, residential care, and respite services, was collected in the NDS 2006 and will be collected again.
Information on whether the respondent provides care or support to others will be added to the module via the Census of Population.
The consultation revealed a lot of interest in learning more about the pay source for care or support services, and the cost of such care. These topics were deprioritised to ensure the module isn’t overly burdensome for respondents. The frequency of access of care services and whether this frequency was sufficient were also deprioritised due to lower support.
